About

About minIt has been identified that in Bulgaria, Greece, Italy and Spain there is a scarce production and diffusion of films that give visibility to the positive aspects of migration. Regardless of its format (short films, feature films, documentaries, animation) and its distribution (cin-emas, social networks, media). On the contrary, the examples of the migrant people in films are still more prone to repeat roles that, in most cases, are exclusively individual cas-es (and not group or that can be extended to all migrants). The latter, unfortunately, has al-lowed films to generate and consolidate erroneous stereotypes about migrants. A situation that affects a lot for its inclusion to the host societies, as well as to the welcome and ac-ceptance by the native citizens.

Given this context, it has been decided to "give a twist" to this situation and hold a Europe-an Migration Film Festival. The purpose of this festival is to promote a positive narrative about migration and to give visibility to the contributions that citizens of third countries have made to European Union (EU) societies. At the same time, it is expected that this fes-tival (in general) and the short films to be presented (in particular) can contribute to trans-forming the perception that EU citizens have about migrants. The latter is extremely im-portant, in order to generate a better climate of coexistence, union, respect, cooperation and a sense of belonging (as European values seek).

In order to achieve the above objectives, a short film competition on the theme of promot-ing a positive narrative about migration and giving visibility to the contributions made by migrant people will be launched in each country for new or amateur filmmakers (youth workers). Of all the short films submitted to the contest, two will be chosen to present them in Salamanca.

At the film festival in Salamanca, participants will have the opportunity to exchange expe-riences with the other novice or amateur filmmakers, attend workshops on how to use cinema as a means of visibility and denunciation, how to use the Erasmus+ programme, how to obtain funding and, especially, presenting their short films to experts, political au-thorities, responsibles of social entities and citizens of both Salamanca and Castilla y León.
